BreathAssistant is a simple, offline 4-7-8 breathing companion — breathe in 4, hold 7, breathe out 8 — with a calm animated circle, gentle voice cues, and optional haptics. It's a wellness and relaxation practice for general wellbeing, not a medical service. No account, no server, no data leaves your device.

FAQ

How does the 4-7-8 pattern work?

Follow the circle — it expands as you inhale (4s), holds (7s), then contracts as you exhale (8s). Pick a speed (Rest, Walking, Running) and a duration (1–60 min) from the pill below the circle, then press Start.

I don't hear voice or ambient sounds

Check the physical mute switch and volume. The app respects the system volume and plays bundled audio from assets/sounds/ — no streaming. Background audio continues when you lock the screen.

Haptics don't fire

Haptics use expo-haptics. Ensure Haptics are enabled in iOS Settings and in the app's sound/haptics toggles. They fire lightly on each stage change.

Stats aren't showing my sessions

Stats are saved locally in AsyncStorage (@breathassistant:sessions). Complete a session and reopen Stats — entries appear as Today / This Week / All Time. Use Clear in Stats to reset. Deleting the app removes all history.

Onboarding reappears or never shows

The 3-screen intro shows once on first launch (flag @breathassistant:hasSeenOnboarding). Reopen it anytime from the About overlay. It respects Reduce Motion with cross-fades only.

Does it work offline?

Yes — fully offline, even in airplane mode. No login, no tracking.

Troubleshooting

Force-quit and relaunch if the circle freezes.
Restart iPhone if audio stays silent after checking mute.
On iOS 17+, check Settings → Focus to ensure BreathAssistant isn't silenced.
